As she continues to share her experience of giving birth to her second daughter prematurely, Princess Beatrice called the experience “incredibly lonely.”
Earlier this year, Beatrice delivered Athena Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi several weeks early on January 22, and since has become an outspoken advocate for mothers who give birth prematurely. She joined forces with the premature birth research charity Borne back in March as its patron, and appeared on its podcast on November 17 to mark World Prematurity Day.

Beatrice’s comments mark her first since her parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, lost their Duke and Duchess of York titles last month. Later, on October 30, Andrew was stripped of all of his royal titles and privileges by his older brother King Charles.
“I think so often, especially as mums, we spend our lives, you know, feeling we have to be perfect to do this,” Beatrice said on “The Borne Podcast”. “And sometimes, when you are faced with that moment of learning that your baby’s going to come a bit early, it can be incredibly lonely.”

“And even now, talking to some of the mums who know about my work with Borne, they feel this sense of…life-changing relief that can come with knowing that there is an organization there that is supporting the research and supporting the questions, and asking some of these important questions,” she added.
Last week, Beatrice made her first official public appearance since the October 30 stripping of Andrew’s royal titles and privileges at Borne’s research laboratories at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, where Athena was born nearly 10 months ago. She said on the podcast that she hopes her support of Borne will “bring as many people that have had their own stories to come and share them,” adding, “Then maybe we can learn from each other.”

“My favorite thing about being a mum is the fact that it’s like a secret, you know, it almost feels like a secret club of sharing stories,” she said. “And I love the fact that Borne is there to support them when they’re going through something incredibly traumatic.”
In March, Beatrice—who is also mom to daughter Sienna Elizabeth and stepmom to Christopher Woolf with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi—told British Vogue in a deeply personal essay that “It took more than a few weeks for the tears of relief to dry and for our life with our healthy baby to feel real.”

Though Andrew has been stripped of his princely title, Beatrice and her younger sister Princess Eugenie will retain their princess titles, as well as their Her Royal Highness stylings.
