Virgil Van Dijk admits Mohamed Salah’s benching is normal.
Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has just affirmed that Mohamed Salah’s two consecutive benchings are a clear reminder: No star has an “untouchable” position at Anfield at the moment.
The Egyptian international was not named in the starting lineup for the win over West Ham and the 1-1 draw with Sunderland. This is the first time in his Liverpool career that the star wearing the number 11 shirt has not started two consecutive Premier League matches.

When asked if Mohamed Salah’s omission was a warning message from the coaching staff, Virgil Van Dijk frankly shared: “That’s the rule of football. No one has unlimited power or a guaranteed starting spot, everyone has to try to show themselves. Mo still works hard, but the coach has made the decision in the best interests of the club.”
Despite his teammate’s poor form, the Dutch centre-back still believes in the class of the star wearing the number 11 shirt: “I am sure Mo will still play a key role in Liverpool’s upcoming goals”.

“His class and stability have been confirmed over time. However, the whole team is trying to find a common stability. Mo needs our support to regain his peak form, and vice versa, we also need him.”

Now, after a difficult draw with Sunderland, Liverpool will turn their attention to the encounter with Leeds United this Sunday. Coach Arne Slot and his team need 3 points to temporarily overcome the crisis.
